Why This Sh*t Matters - Art in London

10 June 2017

Venue: Hackney Wick Overground Station, E9

Organiser: Hackney Tours

Hackney Tours has been exploring the borough since 2009 in attempt to find some kind of truth about this fast changing part of London and to combine a love of travel with an activist streak. Founder Simon Cole takes a multi-faceted approach including performance when relevant but has discovered that holding a space where everyone can contribute is a powerful form of community and leads to valuable conversations.

Now that Hackney Wick artists have helped regenerate East London, they’re being squeezed out as land value spirals. On this walking debate - at a time when coming together is more important than ever - everyone is invited to contribute their thoughts on why art matters in megacities. Have we lost track of the values that inspire us to make/enjoy in the first place? Bring a work (eg text, picture) that inspires you and we’ll make a walking conversation and connect with each other.
